Engagement Photos at Mahoney State Park || Collin + Jacey

The Dreamiest Engagement Session at Mahoney State Park

On the most beautiful day back in June, I had the chance to meet Collin and Jacey for the cutest engagement photo session out at Mahoney State Park. These two are the most fun, adorable couple! Their love shined through every moment as we wandered the park and found all the sweetest spots for photos.

From the moment we started, it was clear how much these two adore each other. Collin and Jacey made my job easy, the best engagement photos and sessions are the ones where the couple feels totally comfortable being themselves.

Mahoney State Park in the Summer

Summer at Mahoney State Park is just gorgeous. The park is covered in shades of green and blooming wildflowers. Huge, towering trees surrounded us, helping to cast the perfect mix of light and shadow over Collin and Jacey.  One of my favorite things about this location is its size—we felt like we had the entire park to ourselves, even during its busiest season!

As we explored, we stumbled upon the sweetest little greenhouse, which made the most charming backdrop for some cozy, romantic shots.

Why Mahoney State Park is the Perfect Engagement Photo Spot

One of the things I love most about Mahoney State Park is how much variety it offers—all in one spot! No need to drive all over town looking for different backdrops (unless you’re after a downtown city vibe, then check out these spots). Mahoney has just about everything you could want for a dreamy engagement session.

Some of my favorites include:
Wide Open Fields – Perfect for soft, golden-hour glow and good old Nebraska vibes
Wooded Trails – let’s go on a little hike!
Greenhouses & Gardens – Tucked-away gems that will make such unique photos
Wildflowers – We all love those pops of color!
The Platte River – let’s get some beachy vibes going!!
Rolling Hills & Towering Trees – Absolutely gorgeous, especially at sunset!

Tips for the Best Engagement Photos at Mahoney State Park

If you’re planning an engagement session here, keep these tips in mind:

Pick the Right Time: Golden hour gives the most beautiful, soft lighting. Avoid midday when the sun is harsh (and hot!).

Dress for the Setting: Earthy tones, flowy fabrics, and soft neutrals work best with the natural scenery. Avoid neon or overly busy patterns.

Find All the Unique Spots: Mahoney offers so many gorgeous spots—don’t be afraid to explore and get adventurous. The Overlook Towers or The James Family Conservatory and Nature Center are two you should consider! You can also find so many beautiful trails!

Check the Weather: Nebraska weather can be unpredictable, so keep an eye on the forecast and plan accordingly.
