When it comes to engagement photos, the backdrop you choose can completely shape the look and feel of your gallery. Omaha has so many beautiful and historic spots that are full of character. Whether you’re dreaming of old-world romance, modern elegance, or something that feels timeless and classic, you’ll find a spot downtown. Here are some of the best places to take engagement photos in Downtown Omaha, along with a peek at sessions I’ve photographed there!
If you’re looking for a fairytale setting, Joslyn Castle is hard to beat. This 35-room Scottish Baronial mansion sits atop a hill on the edge of downtown, and it feels like you’ve stepped right into Europe. The carved wood, stained glass, chiseled stone, mosaic tiles, and wrought iron details make it an unforgettable spot.
There is a photography fee of $100, but the magic of the castle is worth it if you want something truly unique. There is no shortage of beautiful nooks, crannies, and green spaces! I photographed Emmy and Kipper’s engagement session here, and the stone walls and lush grounds gave their photos such a romantic, timeless feel.

For something a little more modern and clean-cut, the Joslyn Art Museum is a stunning option. This iconic building is made of pink marble and designed with classic art deco architecture. It’s both elegant and striking.
The museum does require a $250 fee, and photo sessions are only allowed between 4–6 pm. If you love chic, sophisticated vibes, it’s worth the investment. I photographed Austin and Sadie’s engagement photos here, and we ended up with a wide variety of photos!

Not just any high school—Central High actually used to be the Capitol building, way back when Omaha was the capital! Completed in 1902, it has a rich history and stands out among Omaha’s downtown skyscrapers. With its old, stately architecture, it brings a bit of “old money” charm to your engagement session, making it one of the best places to take engagement photos in Downtown Omaha.
The grounds are open to the public, so it’s an easy spot to explore. I loved photographing Zac and Anna here—the building’s grand presence brought so much character to their photos.
If you love variety, the Douglas County Courthouse offers plenty, from the massive gold vault door to the marble pillars. The architecture alone makes it one of the best places to take engagement photos in Downtown Omaha.
Since the outdoor areas are public, it’s an accessible and versatile choice. I photographed Tyler and Kenzie’s engagement session here, and we had so much fun exploring different backdrops without ever leaving the property.
Each of these downtown Omaha locations offers something a little different—whether you want the romance of Joslyn Castle, the modern lines of the art museum, the historic charm of Central High, or the true downtown feel of the Courthouse.
When we plan your engagement session, we’ll talk about the overall vibe you’re going for, and I’ll help you choose the spot (or two!) that best fits your personalities and your love story.
